In the centre of the city of Cherbourg, on top of the big mountain Fort de Roule, lies a former French fortification that is also been used by the Germans as Headquarters for the Festung Cherbourg.
There is only one way up and down for the public. Halfway you will be able to visit the Galleries117 Museum and on the top is the other Museum with lots of information about the war and the Cherbourg battle.
We show you the pictures in two section, one from outside and the other one via the "Museum Galeries 117" that is built in the caves, tunnels and bunkers the Germans built during the war. The Museum is very special and modern, showing with multi media presentations what happened to the hard labour prisoners and what they had to stand by working in these "galleries". Via these tunnels your are also entering the four gun bunkers. At this moment the Fire Control bunker is still closed for public.
The others object on the mountain can not be visited because they lie on Military Terrain and are closed with high fences.
