Le Portel, Ave Maria (harbour area).
AOK15, KVA C, Festung Boulogne, Ave Maria railroad tunnel, Stp. 231 Salbei.

The location can be reached via the harbour area of Boulogne at the end of the road called "le Superieure A" and lies close to the village of Le Portel.
The railroad tunnel has originally been built by the French somewhere around 1937 as a connection between the harbour facility and the inland railway system an lies underneath the high dunes along the coast of Boulogne.
The Germans built several small defence objects around the tunnel entrance to defend it  in case enemy troops would land in the harbour and try to pass the "Atlantikwall underneath". The Germans used the railroad tunnel also to store and protect their railroad gun battery, a 21cm K12. When they wanted to shell some target in England they drove the battery out of the tunnel into the open railway track. ,From there they aimed and shot. With good weather condition the British shore and the impact of their shots could be observed.

1x Gun emplacement for 5cm KwK.
1x Vf observation.

After you have passed the Stp.259 Pechnelke along the road called Rue du Cap, you will see the old French Fort d'Alprech. The Germans built several buildings up, in and around the old fortification to construct their Kriegsmarine station with two radar stations of the type Wurzburg See Riese Fu.MO 214 called "Emma".
In one of the bunkers, just outside the old fort, a Sk (Sonderkontruction) bunker command post, was just ready during the battle around Boulogne in September 1944.
Just outside the fort at the sea side the defence ditch, an old French building was re-used and upgraded with a "St look a like" front, and used as a machinery bunker.
One of the positions for the Wurzburg Riese radar has in the meantime tumbled of the rocks and lies half on the slope towards the beach….!

Just before the main cluster of objects you pass a "white house" covered with "sea shells". The back-end part of the house is a former German bunker, a Sk Marine ammo storage. The location is very interesting with all kinds of buildings, bunkers and specialties.
So has one of the 671 gun bunkers been changed by the Germans into an observation post by closing almost the gun position. The other buildings around the Command Post are all special, but we where not in the situation during this visit to enter them all.

Le Portel, Ningles.
AOK15, KVA C, Festung Boulogne, Ningles , Wn. 261 Oleander.

Between the village of Equihen and Le Portel, where the D119 becomes  the D236, there is a small industrial complex. Turn here into the Chemin de Ningles towards the coast and pass the very small and primitive airfield of Le Portel. Park your car just after the local amateur flying club terrain for model aircrafts and start walking to the coast.

In the meadow you will encounter several objects, partly visible or covered and further on you will find some good visible bunkers, but also remains. Go up the hill to enjoy the beautiful view over the Canal and hopefully you see the White Cliffs of Dover and the neighboring bunkers.
