Luftschutzbunkers / Air raid shelters.
During the war the Germans also build a lot of Luftschutzbunkers (Ls) (air raid shelters) for the civilian population in the city's. They also build Ls-bunkers for officials, on factories to protect the workers and on railway stations and train yards.
Most of these Ls-bunkers where build just between the houses so that the people could easily and quickly enter the shelters. After the war there was no need to demolish them quickly and a lot of the bunkers were used again during the Cold War and even nowadays for Civil Protection, storage or other purposes.
