Bunnik, Fort bij Vechten.
Dutch Defence line 1940, Vesting Holland - Oostfront, Bunnik, Fort bij Vechten.

Outside the city of Utrecht there are a lot off old fortifications that where built in the 19th century for the Dutch Water Defence line (Nieuwe Hollandsche Waterlinie). Fort bij Vechten was built between 1867-1870 and is 17 hectare big and is located between Utrecht and Bunnik in the little village of Vechten, along highway A12.

In and around this forts, personnel shelters and casemates where placed to close gaps between the deferent forts and to make a defence line during WW1.
Round 1938 the Dutch army started to build some new personnel shelters, MG-bunkers and other defence works in and around the old fortifications.
In and around the Fort bij Vechten you still find some of those WW1 and WW2 objects, as Pyramide personnel shelters and G-casemates.

Bunnik, Fort Rijnauwen.
Dutch Defence line 1940, Vesting Holland - Oostfront, Bunnik, Fort Rijnauwen.

At the south side of the village of Bunnik, along the N411, you find Fort Rijnauwen in the forest Amelisweert.
In the fields you see a lot of personnel shelters from World War 1. In the forest and in the fields around the forest, several Dutch Pyramide personnel shelters from World War 2 were built.
In the forest you also find an old fort, Fort Rijnauwen from the Hollandsche Waterlinie. This location is only open during summertime and on special days
