Hoek van Holland, Fort aan den Hoek van Holland.

Drive over the Koningin Emmaboulevard along the riverside where you see at the landside the former Dutch Panserfort aan den Hoek van Holland.
The fort was build as a "panserfort" with 4x24cm and 2x15cm guns with a reach of about 6km. Other equipment where several MG's, a "torpedo protection system" and small arms. The fort is build between 1881 and 1889 together with other panserforten as Harsens in Den Helder, Fort eiland IJmuiden, and island Pampus near Amsterdam.
The Dutch government held is last meeting in Holland in the Fort and then went to England by boat. The Germans dismantled some equipment and materials from the Fort and used it further only as hospital and bakery for the Festung Hoek van Holland.
After the war the Fort was used as prison for German prisoners of war, Dutch collaborators with the Germans and later on it was used by English troops.

The Fort is nowadays a Museum and outside the fort the museum has collected several weapons' and small German objects like Tobruks and a Guardhouse. Take a look there website www.forthvh.nl
