Festung IJmuiden Bpt 79a.
At the harbour of IJmuiden, just in front of the semaphore together with the lighthouse, is a special bunker constructed.
This bunker is build as a secure replacement for the original semaphore, standing on the top of the dune. The German's build a special bunker, Marinesignalstand type V 214. Underground there are some rooms for equipment and machinery and on top of the bunker they build an tower of 8 meter, being the semaphore as also a lookout and an observation post. The tower was camouflaged as a regular house, they build a brick wall around it..
In February 2008 the Port Authority of Amsterdam started construction activities on top of the bunker. We had a special visit with two employees of the Port Authority of Amsterdam inside the bunker, at the final day before the bunker would be closed. Just a couple of hours after we did our photo shoot, they closed the bunker for good.
