Schoorl, Centrum "Heel en Al".
WBN, KVA Schagen, Stp.Gr. Schoorl, Wn. 34 L, Funk-Sende-Anlage Bernhard.
Next to the village centre of Schoorl, at the south-west side in the corner of the Duinweg, is a way up the dunes called Klimweg towards the spiritual centre called "Heel en Al".
Close to the top of the dunes you will see a Tobruk and a Kuver bunker standing close to the road. Then you see some brick buildings standing spread over the area which where built by the Germans as housing and common facility buildings for the troops. Standing on the crossing you have to go to the right climbing higher to the top of a dune, passing the several brick buildings. On the top you we see on your left and right some Kuver bunkers in the bushes. The great open space is where the concrete foundation was standing for the Bernard Funk-Sende-Anlage, but now a days that is not visible anymore.
Funk-Sende-Anlage Bernard was built on a 50 meter high dune in 1941 and was made by Telefunken type 724/725. The antenna was 10 meters high and could rotate on a 30 meters wide steel/concrete ring, together 100 tons. The installation was used to navigate German bombers and night fighter planes. The Allies bombed the location in September 1944 and it was f out of use or along time till April 1945 and because of a message from the Dutch resistance to the Allies about its recovery, damaged again.
