Singapore, Fort Canning Park.
Battle Box, museum.

In the middle of the centre of Singapore, in Fort Canning Park, is the so called Battle Box located. This museum is open for public and you'll have to book a guided tour.

The bunker became famous because the fact that around February 1942, at the end of the Battle for Singapore the British forces moved their headquarter for the Malayan campaign to the Battle Box. And in the morning of the 15th of February, Lieutenant-General Percival decided, after a long discussion with his staff, to surrender Singapore to the Japanese and therefore the surrender of about 80.000 Allied soldiers. After the British forces left the bunker, the Japanese used the bunker during the rest of the war and so you can see a lot of Japanese instructions on the wall, which is quit fascinating because we are only used to the German instructions in Europe.
The bunker is now a museum but for the most part still in its original state. There are quit a few instructions on the wall and some original machinery is still present.

Types:

Singapore.
Kranji War Memorial.

In the northern part of Singapore, near the Malaysian border is an area called Woodland. Here you'll find the Kranji War Memorial.

We've booked the battlefield tour that brought us to this location, there are about 5.000 services men buried here, most of them who died during the battle of Malaysia and Singapore. There are many nationalities including The Netherlands; it's special to see the typical Dutch names on gravestones far away from Holland. The site is beautiful preserved and the impressive memorial wall, which looks like a wing is standing straight in the middle of the cemetery overlooking all the graves.

Singapore, Labrador Nature Reserve.
Labrador Battery.

On the southern end of Singapore, in the middle of the Labrador Nature Reserve, is the Labrador battery located. There is an organised tour that leads you to the most important locations of WW2 including this one. This Battlefield tour is available at the tourist information centre. The bunkers are constructed in the middle of the bushes so they have a natural camouflage. The bunkers are open and you can access the park freely.

The first fortifications on this site were build around 1878 and later on the fortifications were improved and modernised by the British who controlled Singapore and the region. At the beginning of WW2 the battery was surrounded by minefields, anti-tank barriers and contained several gun emplacements for the 9.2inch guns. Unfortunately the guns were aimed at sea because the enemy was supposed to come from that direction. But the Japanese forces came from the land so the guns are never properly used, the gunners did managed to traverse the guns and they did fire at the Japanese but it caused minimal delay for the advancing Japanese forces. There are several emplacements, some of them are hard to see. There is one huge bunker that served as storage for ammunition and as shelter for personnel.

Types:
3x Emplacements 9.2inch gun.
3x Emplacements 12-pounder gun.
1x Storage bunker.
1x Tunnel.
