Sleeuwijk

The village of Sleeuwijk can be found south of Gorichem, on the southern bank of the river Maas
In the fields around Sleeuwijk, a large number of bunkers can be found. Most of them are personnel bunkers, the so called Pyramids (the shape of the bunker). We found one so called G-casemate. It used to have a cast-steel cupola for a heavy machinegun. Unfortunately the cupola has been removed a long time ago. All the bunkers lie on a row and can be visited easily.
A nice detail is the foundation of the bunkers, unlike the one in Werkendam, these ones have concrete pillars to support the bunker. Otherwise the bunker will sink in the wet grounds of Holland, especially near the large rivers. Between the bunkers we discovered some brick walls that were almost completely overgrown  Could that have been some sort of a storage building or living quarter?
All the bunkers are part of the defence line Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie and have been built in the period 1939-1940 by the Dutch just before the beginning of World war 2.

Types:
5x personnel bunker, Pyramids.
